Irony
There are three different types of irony, each of which is listed below:
1. Situational Irony - When the outcome is opposite of what was expected
Ex. A water vendor dying from thirst or A clown with no sense of humor
2. Verbal Irony - Sarcasm - When what is said is the opposite of what is meant
Ex. Saying “Oh, fantastic!” when the situation is actually very poor or something like She's as nice as a shark.
3. Dramatic Irony - When the audience knows more than the characters involved
Ex. In a scary movie, the character walks into a house and the audience knows the killer is in the house.
Ex. Sometimes a person is in disguise and the other character talks with him as if he is someone else. Since this is known by the audience, it adds to the humor of the dialogue.
