Introductory WebQuest Overview
Research
Before we begin reading the novel by Harper Lee, we need to learn some background information. Each student will become an expert on one area of the background information (1-Author, 2-Scottsboro Boys, 3-Jim Crow Laws,4-The Great Depression, 5-Growing Up in the South). Questions and websites will be provided to guide research, however students are encouraged and expected to explore outside of the provided information to allow the research process to expand as knowledge is gained. The questions and websites are a starting place, but feel free to answer more questions and search other sites for information.
Collaboration
Each topic group with gather together to share information with their classmates who researched the same topic. They will move their level of expertise to the next level by talking about and sharing ides.
Next, students will be placed in Creation Groups. These groups will include an expert from each of the topic areas (1-Author, 2-Scottsboro Boys, 3-Jim Crow Laws,4-The Great Depression, 5-Growing Up in the South) where they will share their information with classmates, teaching them about their area of expertise.

Creation
Finally, students will use their Creation Groups to make something new using the information gathered about the novel. They will use their information and their personal strengths to be creative thinkers and expand their knowledge to create and to add to the classroom.
